Tecno Camon 30 Premier announced with PolarAce imaging system, Sony ISP
Tecno declared the Camon 30 Premier 5G in front of its delivery in Q2 of this current year (April-June). The declaration zeroed in on a few elements including the new Tecno PolarAce Imaging Framework.
The framework is worked around a Sony chip named CXD5622GG. This isn’t a sensor however an ISP all things being equal. It is evaluated at 4.6 TFLOPS at FP16 (16-cycle drifting point), which is more than the telephone’s chipset (Dimensity 8200 Ultra) can marshal all alone and this professes to be more power productive for sure.
This compute power is thrown into a number of tasks that enable full-scene AI noise reduction for HDR video (an industry first, Tecno claims) and 4K Ultra Night Vision videos. Dedicated ISPs consume much less power than other ISPs when processing 4K 30fps video.
It uses the company’s Universal Tone, an AI-based solution to render accurate skin tones. AIGC Portrait mode allows you to modify portrait shots with things like adding formal clothes or prom dresses or even wedding dresses. AI One Click Eraser is self-explanatory, removes unwanted objects from a scene with a single click.
The Tecno Camon Premier 5G will also use a Sony image sensor, the 50MP Sony IMX890 with OIS (1/1.56”, 1.0µm pixels). The phone is equipped with a 70mm periscope with a 50MP sensor, which will handle zoom (up to 60x hybrid zoom), portrait photos and even macro shots. Additionally, there is a 50MP Ultra Wide
The phone is styled after a rangefinder camera and the circular camera island is made to look like a zoom ring. Next to it is the quad-LED flash.
On the front, the phone will have a 6.77″ OLED display with 1,264 x 2,780px and 1,400 nits peak brightness. The display will be an LTPO panel – the first non-foldable Tecno to use this technology (it was featured on the Phantom V Flip and V Fold). The front selfie camera has a 50MP sensor and an autofocus lens.
The phone will have a metal mid-frame for rigidity and premium feel. An interesting design is the “action dot” – a breathing light on the back. It will light up when you’re recording video, but it also serves as a charging indicator and an indicator that the voice assistant is activated. The press release also mentions that this is an “infrared sensor indicator”, the functionality of which we will find out later.
The Premier runs on a 5,000mAh battery with 70W fast charging that works on the USB-C port. Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and even has an IR blaster and FM radio receiver. The phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos but no 3.5mm headphone jack.
As mentioned above, the phone is powered by Dimensity 8200 Ultra, which will run Android 14 out of the box. The chipset is paired with up to 12GB of RAM (+ up to 12GB of virtual RAM) and up to 512GB of storage.
The Tecno Camon 30 series will launch in Q2 this year along with the premiere and three other models (but those are covered in a separate article).
